Every couple needs a weekend away every so often. Getting away for a weekend is a way to reconnect with your spouse and focus on your marriage.
But when managing a busy household, there are a huge amount of things to do before you can take off and enjoy your weekend alone. By making the following preparations in advance, you’ll be worry-free when it’s time to go.
Make Sure You’re Doing These Things Before Leaving for a Weekend Away
Make Childcare Preparations in Advance
If you’re leaving little ones at home, this is the most important thing you’ll have to do before getting away. Whether you utilize family members and friends or hire a babysitter, you want to make sure you have someone who is trustworthy, reliable and available. Taking care of this ahead of time will mean you can focus on the other aspects of planning your trip.
Have Back up Childcare
So everyone might not do this, but things do happen at the last minute sometimes. Having backup childcare just in case is a good option. I also like to make sure I have backup even if the original sitter shows up, because you never know what could happen. If someone in their family gets sick, for example, they might need to leave. Leaving a backup phone number that your sitter can reach out to just in case will give you peace of mind…it does for me, anyway. 🙂
Get Your Car in Shape
That means tuned up, cleaned up and filled up! The last thing you want to happen when you’re leaving for the weekend is to find an issue with your car. And having it cleaned, gassed and ready to go will make for a good start to your trip.
Stock Up on Groceries
So this one might be obvious, but there have actually been times where I’ve thought “Oh darn, I need to run to the grocery store before we go!” Grocery shopping isn’t fun for me, so having to dash out at the very last minute and grab some food for the household isn’t my idea of a good time. It just adds that much more stress to what is supposed to be a fun weekend away. So if you’re planning a getaway, make sure you do your grocery shopping in advance.
Have Your Budget Set
Most of us have budgets that we need to stick to. Having your budget set in advance means less hassle during your trip. Know what your expenses are going to be: Hotel, gas, food, etc. Then give yourself an allotted amount for fun. The last thing you want to do on your weekend away is fight with your husband about money.
It’s so important for moms and dads to take regular getaways whenever possible. What are your most important things to do before you take a weekend away? We’d love to hear what you think in the comments!
